Dr. Silvia Vega-Rubín-de-Celis, Group Leader in “Autophagy and Cancer” at the Institute for Cell Biology (Cancer Research), has been awarded a RAICEX-CRIS contra el Cáncer grant to attend the 20th International ASEICA (Spanish Cancer Research Association) Congress in Bilbao, Spain, in October. This highly competitive mobility program promotes the creation of a network of contacts with key players in translational biomedical cancer research, and fosters relationships between research talent within and outside of Spain. These grants support Spanish researchers abroad by helping them participate in high-level scientific conferences, promoting the international visibility of their work and strengthening their ties with the Spanish scientific community. Silvia presented her project entitled: “A new targetable BAP1-SRC-BECN1-autophagy axis for precision oncology in BAP1-mutant cancers”, which has been published in the journal Autophagy.

RAICEX, the Network of associations of Spanish researchers and scientists abroad, represents 22 associations with over 4,500 Spanish researchers and scientists. RAICEX aims “to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge between Spanish researchers and scientists abroad and all agents of the Spanish System of Science, Technology and Innovation, serving as an advisory body, information channel and catalyst for international and multidirectional relations, thus contributing to the progress of science”. CRIS (Cancer Research & Innovation in Science) is a foundation whose mission is “to defeat cancer through research”. RAICEX and CRIS have teamed up to address the challenges in cancer research from a global perspective.
