RAICEX-CRIS Award for Dr. Silvia Vega Rubin de Celis
Dr. Silvia Vega-Rubín-de-Celis, head of the “Autophagy in Cancer” working group at the Institute of Cell Biology (Tumor Research), was honored with a RAICEX-CRIS contra el Cáncer Grant. The award enabled her to attend the 20th International ASEICA Congress of the Spanish Association for Cancer Research, which took place in Bilbao, Spain, in October. This highly competitive mobility program from RAICEX-CRIS promotes the establishment of an international network of leading experts in translational cancer research and strengthens collaboration between researchers inside and outside Spain. The RAICEX-CRIS contra el Cáncer Grants enable Spanish researchers abroad to participate in prestigious scientific conferences in order to increase the international visibility of their work and strengthen their ties to the Spanish scientific community.
At the ASEICA Congress, Dr. Vega-Rubín-de-Celis presented her current research project entitled “A new targetable BAP1-SRC-BECN1-autophagy axis for precision oncology in BAP1-mutant cancers.” (“A new therapeutically exploitable BAP1-SRC-BECN1 autophagy axis for precision oncology in BAP1-mutant cancers”). The results of this work were recently published in the renowned journal Autophagy.
RAICEX (Red de Asociaciones de Investigadores y Científicos Españoles en el Exterior) brings together more than 4,500 Spanish scientists working abroad from 22 associations in a network with the aim of supporting and connecting Spanish researchers abroad, promoting the exchange of knowledge, and strengthening links with the Spanish science, technology, and innovation system. CRIS (Cancer Research & Innovation in Science) is a foundation with a mission to “defeat cancer through research.” RAICEX and CRIS have joined forces to tackle the challenges of cancer research from a global perspective.
